Mountain Community Radio was incorporated on July 20, 2023 in the state of California, as a 501c3 nonprofit educational corporation for charitable purposes. It is organized for the purpose of providing vital public safety information during local emergencies or when hazardous conditions pose a threat to Eastern Madera County. Our mission is to educate the public, not only on what to do in an emergency situation, but, also what resources are available and how to be better prepared, if and when, a situation occurs. Income shall be produced through membership, donations, pledge drives and underwriters of programming.
Mountain Community Radio made application for a LPFM for Oakhurst on December 7, 2023. On November,15, 2024 our application was approved and a construction permit for 92.7 LPFM was granted.by the FCC.
On March 11, 2025 we were issued the call sign KMIO, which we requested for “Mountain Information Online!”
On June 25, 2025 the FCC finally granted Mountain Community Radio its low-power FM station license and KMIO went LIVE on the air at 92.7 LP-FM and streaming online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
Also anyone can tune in and listen to KMIO via any computer or mobile device online by going to our website www.MountainCommunityRadio.org. Currently our music programming is streaming 24/7 online on the audio player, located on our website. (In time, we plan on acquiring a phone app and, when available, will post that link for listeners on our website.)
Mountain Community Radio uses the latest digital technology to economically keep our local communities in touch with current issues in Eastern Madera County. Unfortunately, KMIO has limited reach due to the mountainous terrain. KMIO would like to be able to extend that reach to other outlying areas, and is working toward that goal, which may include a new frequency allocation and a possible booster to cover the Coarsegold area.
Mountain Community Radio will strive to give voice to our community through educational training and informational interviews with local, county, state, tribal, and national emergency services, community partners, such as CALFire, Red Cross, Madera County Sheriff, CALTrans, PG&E, health services, business owners, service clubs and organizations, community leaders, and everyday people who are making a difference in the lives of our great community.
Together we can keep our community safe, alive and well
